Uriah Heep’s debut LP from 1970 is an 'eavy rock classic! The cobwebbed screaming face on the cover reveals something of the mystery and darkness of the music that lies within. Opening with their anthem, “Gypsy” in a powerful, rhythmic blast of riffs, power chords, swirling organ and well arranged vocal harmonies, the sound of Heep is set in stone with a song that has remained in their live sets ever since. "Walking In Your Shadow” is another great guitar-based number, similar to what Deep Purple were doing at the time. Then the mood changes in a big way with the mellow, melancholy of "Come Away Melinda” and cruisy, slow blues of "Lucy Blues”. Side 2 kicks things into full gear with the psychedelic heaviness of “Dreammare” and "Real Turned On”. "I'll Keep On Trying” is a showcase for guitarist, Mick Box, who treats us to a very wicked wah-wah solo! The prog rock sounds of the first class "Wake Up (Set Your Sights)” rounds the album off very nicely. An ESSENTIAL LP for all lovers of 'ard ’n’ 'eavy rock!
