Classic heavy rock double live! A fine legacy to this great British quintet and Heep's most essential album. While there are quite a few Uriah Heep studio albums that fit the "classic" bill (most notably 'Demons and Wizards', 'Sweet Freedom' and 'Very 'eavy, Very 'umble'), it is in the live arena where their performances really shine. Recorded at Birmingham Town Hall nearly five decades ago, 'Live January 1973' is undoubtedly the ultimate Heep line-up at the peak of their powers - musically, creatively and in popularity. Comprising of Mick Box (guitars), David Byron (lead vocals), Ken Hensley (keyboards, guitars, vocals), Lee Kerslake (drums, vocals) and New Zealander, Gary Thain (bass), this particular band was responsible for the key recordings in the extensive UH catalogue. On 'Live January 1973' they are captured perfectly on definitive versions of such gems as the storming "Easy Livin'", the heavy anthem "Gypsy" and the magnificent "July Morning" -- Uriah Heep's piece-de-resistance. Also featured are the fantastic "Rock 'n' Roll Medley", the guitar duel rocker "Tears In My Eyes" (with Hensley on slide) and an amazing rendition of "Circle Of Hands" which highlights the brilliant bass work of Gary Thain. Sadly, by 1985 Messrs Thain and Byron had both died (due to drug and alcohol excess, respectively), although Uriah Heep continue to this day, having released some admirable recordings since their departure. 'Live January 1973' is a fine legacy to this great British quintet and is Heep's most essential album -- a heavy rock double live classic!!!
