Taken from the master tapes of the sophomore Underdogs LP from 1970. The Underdogs formed in 1964 and shared the scene with other greats from the country like The La De Da’s, The Action (NZ band, not to be confused with the UK mod godfathers) and The Pleazers. They spread the rhythm and blues word from their native Auckland through several 45s on the Zodiac label and went through a series of line-up changes. By the time of this album, originally released in late 1970, The Underdogs line-up had changed again. The original Underdogs had disbanded in 1969, and founding guitarist Harvey Mann and bass player Neil Edwards decided to rebirth it with the help of Glen “Pig” Absolum on drums ~ hence the band’s nickname Pig, Mann & Edwards. This power trio line-up also saw the initial Underdogs UK flavoured R&B sound get heavier and evolve towards a territory more like Cream & Hendrix. It was recorded under the production of former Brew man Bob Gillett in their native Auckland and saw its original release on the PYE label.
