A fine follow-up to 'Level Headed' and the best of the three albums released by Sweet as a trio. Originally released in 1979, 'Cut Above the Rest' was the first Sweet album without the charismatic Brian Connolly on lead vocals. It confirmed that Steve Priest (Bass/Vocals), Andy Scott (Guitars/Vocals) and Mick Tucker (Drums/Vocals) were a powerful and talented trio to be reckoned with. There are some real gems on here, particularly the lengthy, progressive piece, "Mother Earth", the hard rocking "Play All Night" and Priest's passionately sung "Big Apple Waltz". An album that sadly got buried and forgotten at the time, 'Cut Above the Rest' was a fine follow-up to 'Level Headed' and the best of the three albums released by Sweet as a trio.
