Top class Dan again! Brilliant musicianship, immaculate production and wonderful songs, such as "Babylon Sisters”, "Hey Nineteen” & “Third World Man”! Following on from the magnificent ‘Aja’ was always going to be a big call, but (after two years in the making),‘Gaucho’ proved to be top class Dan again! The technical innovation that had happened by the end of the 1970s meant that this is probably the best sounding Steely Dan LP, with immaculate production! Wonderful songs, such as "Babylon Sisters" and "Hey Nineteen" brim with brilliant musicianship in a jazz / funk groove. The final track “Third World Man” is the piece de la resistance, featuring stunning guitar playing from Larry Coryell. The meticulous perfectionism that had gone into the creation of the album was a major cause of the burnout of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. They went their separate ways. Twenty years later they would reunite, but for the time being, ‘Gaucho’ was a fitting farewell to a stellar career.
