Most critics agree that ‘Live in Europe’ (entitled simply ‘Live! in U.S.) is one of Rory Gallagher’s finest albums. Upon release, it entered the top ten album chart in the UK. The album was his first major commercial success and his first solo top ten album and first Gold Disc. In the same year of 1972 he was Melody Maker’s Guitarist / Musician of the Year, winning out over Eric Clapton.
