Beck in full fusion mode with genius keyboard player, Jan Hammer and his musical friends. Recorded on the 'Wired' tour, this LP captures Jeff Beck live in full fusion mode with genius keyboard player, Jan Hammer and his musical friends. Opening track "Freeway Jam", with startling car honk intro, is a complete stunner -- much better than the 'Blow by Blow' version. The following "Earth (Still Our Only Home") is a very funky jazz number, with Beck's guitar shining brighter than a thousand suns. The Beatles song "She's a Woman" is turned to a semi-reggae, semi-funk thing with some voice box guitar tricks (Beck came up with this effect years well before Peter Frampton made it big). "Full Moon Boogie" continues the 70s funk feel, with suitably wolfman-like vocals from drummer, Tony Smith. Side 2 kicks off with the spacey double-shot "Darkness" and "Earth (In Search of a Sun)", with Hammer's other-wordly synth sounds dominating. The great Mahavishnu-inspired "Scatterbrain" (also originally from BbB) is a real highlight, featuring fiery duels between Steve Kindler's violin and Beck's guitar -- very reminiscent of Goodman and McLaughlin. Closing the album is the excellent "Blue Wind" (from 'Wired'), here played with a full line-up and including a jam of the Yardbirds' "Train Kept a-Rollin'". There are some out of this world pieces to be found on this unique live album!
