Contains the definitive version of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" -- featuring some of the best playing of Clapton's career. Recorded live at Fillmore East, in 1972, this album is a sort of companion to the Layla masterpiece and contains the definitive version of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" -- featuring some of the best, most singular and unique playing of Eric Clapton's career. His chops were way up and he was obviously "in the zone", playing two long solos with a passionate, intense, imaginative flow of improvisation that is different than anything else he's ever recorded. Most of the tracks on 'In Concert' are really nice long renditions, as was the general order of the day back then, including a lengthy and impressive drum solo from (the now incarcerated) Jim Gordon in the middle of Let It Rain which, overall, runs to nearly 18 minutes. The other band members were Bobby Whitlock on keys and Carl Radle on bass (who died in 1980 of a heroin overdose). 'In Concert' offers expansive renditions of tracks from his first solo album ("Let It Rain", "Bottle of Red Wine" and "Blues Power"), his double studio album titled 'Layla' ("Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad", "Tell the Truth", and the bluesy "Have You Ever Loved a Woman"), Blind Faith ("Presence of The Lord") and two tracks that were originals, "Got To Get Better In a Little While" and "Roll It Over".
