An eerie vision of a futuristic society -- a milestone in Bowie's career! Features “Rebel, Rebel”, a smart, sexy and very catchy smash hit. David Bowie has never been as menacing or menaced as he sounds on 'Diamond Dogs'. This eerie vision of a futuristic society is Bowie's interpretation of George Orwell's novel '1984' which offered a nihilistic view of the future. The album was recorded with the tight level of musicianship expected from Bowie. It is one of the darkest albums of his career. 'Diamond Dogs' closes Bowie's Glam Rock period and is an orgy of sleazy riffs and stirring piano and synths. The raw guitar style and visions of urban chaos, scavenging children and nihilistic lovers have been credited with anticipating the punk revolution that would take place in the following years. The album finds Bowie perfecting a deeper more mature vocal style and taking on the role of producer / multi-instrumentalist to great effect. ‘Diamond Dogs’ was also a milestone in Bowie's career as it reunited him with Tony Visconti, who provided string arrangements and helped mix the album. The single “Rebel, Rebel” was smart, sexy and very catchy and became a smash hit.
