EVENTS
1973: George Harrison started a 5-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Living in the Material World’, his second US No.1.
1975: Alice Cooper fell from the stage and broke six ribs at a concert in Vancouver, on his ‘Welcome to My Nightmare’ tour.
1977: Who drummer, Keith Moon joined Led Zeppelin on stage, during a gig at The L.A. Forum.
Legend has it that Moon was the one who inspired Zeppelin’s name (or was it Entwistle?). Sadly, Keith Moon would never appear on another U.S. stage, dying on 7th of September, 1978, and John Bonham died two years later on 25th of September, 1980. Both drummers were only 32 at the time of their deaths.
1981: Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin & Adrian Belew announced that their new group, Discipline was now named King Crimson.
There had been no King Crimson since 1974, so we were overjoyed when Mr. Fripp & KC re-emerged in 1981. Having formed and played 14 concerts as Discipline, it was decided that the band were rightfully entitled to the royal prog moniker. Drummer, Bill Bruford was the only other member who had been in Crimson before ~ now joined by super bassist / stick man, Tony Levin (pictured above with me, in 2010) and guitarist / singer, Adrian Belew, fresh from his time with Bowie, Talking Heads & Zappa.
