1964: The Kinks single, “You Really Got Me” was released in America.
1968: The first Beatles single on their own Apple Records was released in the U.S. The single was “Hey Jude” b/w “Revolution.”
1970: An official opening party was held at Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studio in New York City. The next day, Jimi recorded an instrumental track there (Slow Blues”) and left for his Isle of Wight performance in the U.K. On Sept. 18, less than four weeks later, Hendrix died at age 27 in London. 1970: The 5-Day Isle of Wight Festival began at Afton Down, an area on the western side of the Isle of Wight. Artists that performed included Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, The Who, Free, The Doors, Jethro Tull, Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Lighthouse, The Moody Blues, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Cactus, Chicago and more.
1976: Aerosmith was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
1979: Citizen Band played a concert at Regent Theatre, Dunedin ~ I was there!
1980: Tom Petersson quit Cheap Trick and was replaced by Pete Comita. Peterson returned to the group in 1988.
1983: The film ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence’, starring David Bowie, premiered in America.
2019: Death of guitarist / singer / songwriter, Neal Casal of Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, Blackfoot, Gin Wigmore Band, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, etc. [aged 50].
