2023: Death of legendary promoter, Seijiro Udo, aka Mr Udo [aged 92]. The highly respected Mr. Udo hosted countless events in Japan, including concerts by Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Santana, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, George Harrison, The Who, Van Halen, Toto, Bryan Adams, Steve Vai, Kiss, Jackson Browne, Cheap Trick and many more.
Before He Got Experienced: On this day in 1965, Jimi Hendrix signed his first recording contract. After becoming hugely successful, under the management of Chas Chandler, the contract came back to haunt him. Jimi was yet another victim in the long line of musicians who have been ripped off over the years by management con-men and other crooks in the music industry. It turned out that Jimi had to record and give away his ‘Band of Gypsys’ album to the dodgy Ed Chaplin to negate the contract. Here is some fantastic rare footage from those concerts…
