1902: Gibson guitar company was formed. Their first electric guitar (ES-150) was produced in 1936.
1963: Death of singer, Edith Piaf [aged 47].
1969: King Crimson released their debut album, ‘In The Court Of The Crimson King’.
1969: Frank Zappa released his album, ‘Hot Rats‘.
1970: Black Sabbath were at No.1 on the UK chart with their second album ‘Paranoid’.
1975: Deep Purple released their tenth album, ‘Come Taste The Band’. It was the first (and last) studio record to feature guitarist / singer / songwriter, Tommy Bolin, recruited as replacement for Ritchie Blackmore. Deep Purple split up the following year.
1978: Joe Perry & Steve Tyler of Aerosmith were injured after a cherry bomb was thrown on stage during a gig in Philadelphia.
1990: I interviewed Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith at Southern Cross Hotel, Sydney.
1990: Aerosmith played a concert at Sydney Entertainment Centre — I was there!
2018: Death of graphic designer Andie Airfax [aged 72]. Andie created album covers for Def Leppard (‘Hysteria’), Black Sabbath (‘Tyr’), Led Zeppelin (DVD), Judas Priest, Metallica, Philip Lynott, The Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, Paul McCartney, David Bowie & many more.
