Went rummaging through my old photos, when I realised it has been 35 years today since Rose Bayonet supported Cold Chisel in Wellington! Found this shot, taken by photographer “Ginger”…from left it’s bassist Matthew Hudson, me (singing), drummer Jerry Pearse-Smith (barely visible though the orange haze) and guitarist Stefan Lavington. Was a great gig! We steered clear of Chisel as they had been swinging punches at each other (for memory Jimmy Barnes ended up giving drummer Steve Prestwich a black eye, or vice-versa).

Me and my mates used to go and see you regularly at the Terminus in the late 70’s? You guys were awesome. So slick. Always a great show.
Cool! Great to hear that Mike, really appreciate your comments!
Here’s what happened to the band…. Guitarist Stefan went to London not long after we split and been there ever since (has done some band work). Drummer Jerry now lives in Dunedin and retired from playing drums, unfortunately. Bassist Matthew disappeared off to Aussie and I have recently started a hard rock covers band here in Hawke’s Bay, we are called DIGGIN’ BONES.
Cheers, Geoff
Just searched you guys as was telling friends about only time I’ve stayed in Rotorua. Mentioned my friend and I stayed in a backpackers in Rotorua at end of our first year at Otago Uni and that we shared a spa pool with Rose Bayonet – was when you were on this tour!
Hey Lynley,
Thanks for your comment. Hah, awesome ~ yeah, I remember it well! That was the second time we played there… 27 & 28 September, 1982 at the DB, Rotorua. No keeping Stefan away from a spa pool! For a laugh, we signed in at the register as members of Deep Purple. I was David Coverdale. 😀
Cheers, Geoff
