Originally released in the same year as the 'Demons and Wizards' album (1972), 'The Magician's Birthday' also features the classic Heep line-up of David Byron (Lead Vocals), Mick Box (Guitars), Ken Hensley (Keyboards, Guitars, Vocals), Lee Kerslake (Drums, Vocals) and Gary Thain (Bass). With instant anthems like "Sunrise", "Tales", "Sweet Lorraine" and the awesome ten and a half minute title track, 'The Magician's Birthday' immediately became a fan favourite. The albumalso includes the beautiful song "Rain", which was played as a tribute to New Zealander, Gary Thain when he tragically died of drug overdose in 1975, at the young age of 27.
