Classic 1975 Stones LP shines with crystal clear production, great songs and fine playing! 4 ½ Stars This often overlooked album in the Stones’ oeuvre shines with some great songs and fine playing from the band, who are complemented by new boy Ron Wood and gifted keyboard player, Billy Preston. Kicking off with the funky “Hot Stuff”, the crystal clear production is immediately apparent. “Hand of Fate” is vintage Stones, “Cherry Oh Baby” is a lovely slice of reggae with intriguing organ lines and brilliant vocalizing, while the road epic “Memory Motel” is a moving song with a story. Side 2 begins with “Hey Negrita”, a wailing bluesy number and to follow, “Melody” soulfully ambles along with lovely guitar, sax, piano and Mick’s falsetto voice. “Fool to Cry” starts as a gentle ballad and builds into a classic cut, while “Crazy Mama” is The Stones at their rocking best, a powerful conclusion to this prime 70s album. 4 ½ Stars
