    Geoff – January 15, 2022

Containing fantastic guitar rock songs, "The Man on the Silver Mountain", "Temple of the King", "Catch the Rainbow" & "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves’, this is an essential album indeed! The magnificent debut album from brilliant guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore and his group Rainbow. Having founded Deep Purple in 1968, Blackmore quit the legendary rock group seven years later, due to disagreements about their musical direction. He had been working on solo material whilst in Purple and at one point was even rumoured to be forming a supergroup with Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. Blackmore was scouting around for new options and had noted the talent of singer Ronnie James Dio, who fronted Elf, a band that had supported Deep Purple on tour. Ronnie was interested in working with Ritchie, but would only do so if the other members of Elf could be part of the project too. Blackmore agreed ~ but Elf's guitar player was obviously surplus to requirements and was quickly despatched. The remaining players recorded the 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow' album in 1975, which contains fantastic songs, such as "The Man on the Silver Mountain", "Temple of the King", "Catch the Rainbow" and "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves'. An essential rock album indeed!
