Product Description

Super Rare High Quality Actual 1975 First Japanese Pressing Of Pink Floyd Masterpiece ~ Vinyl, Cover & Contents All In Beautiful Condition! Includes Giant Fold-Out Poster, ‘Wish You Were Here’ Postcard, 4-Page Insert With Notes & Lyrics In Japanese, Plus Inner Sleeve With Lyrics In English. Record Has Robot Handshake Picture Labels.

It is SO difficult to find this pressing in such fine condition (hence the price). An absolute gem that will go to the good home of a Pink Floyd enthusiast who fully appreciates the brilliance of this superb album.

Condition – Vinyl: NEAR MINT!! Fantastic ~ super quiet vinyl with dynamic sound quality!

Condition – Cover: NEAR MINT!! There are a couple of barely noticeable spots and a little edge wear, but I am calling this NM, because it is f@#%in’ incredible that a white record cover can still look like this over 46 years later!! Nicest one I have ever seen.

Note: The original Japanese pressing of ‘Wish You Were Here’ was not issued with an obi strip.

Japanese vinyl pressings are highly sought after by audiophiles and collectors, due to their premium sound quality and beautifully presented packaging. The sonic quality of Japanese records is regarded as the best in the world. No wonder all the original Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab records were pressed in Japan! The covers are printed on better quality heavy stock paper too. Near Mint condition original Japanese pressings are becoming scarcer ~ and therefore more collectable and valuable every year.

    AMG – February 13, 2015

Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it's arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group's interplay and David Gilmour's solos in particular. And while it's short on actual songs, the long, winding soundscapes are constantly enthralling.

After the huge success of ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, there was a lot of pressure for Pink Floyd to come up with an appropriate follow-up. The resulting ‘Wish You Were Here’ record proved to be equally amazing -– another truly classic album! The lead track, “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”, is a beautifully composed, sprawling and haunting piece of music, with lyrics loosely based on the antics of original Pink Floyd vocalist / guitarist Syd Barrett (who mysteriously briefly appeared in the studio while the band were recording the album). The rockier “Have a Cigar” is a cynical stab at greedy corporate types in the music industry (“Which one is Pink?”) and features Roy Harper on vocals. The remaining songs, “Welcome to the Machine”, and the title cut are two of the Floyd’s best pieces ever, which every self-respecting rock fan should know by heart. Dave Gilmour and Rick Wright’s playing in particular, is so full of emotional bliss that you can easily drift away to this music… ‘Wish You Were Here’ is superb indeed!
