Two years ago, I was really shocked to hear that Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog & Audioslave had died! He and Jeff Buckley were my favourite singers of the 21st century and now they’re both gone. The Soundgarden gig at The Powerstation in Auckland on 4th of February, 1994 was one of the most powerful and amazing performances I have witnessed. Cornell was incredible, reaching unbelievable heights with his multi-octave voice, right through to the closing stormer, “Jesus Christ Pose”. Met them after the show too. Apparently, the guys partied very hard that night, which explained why their set at the Big Day Out the next night was a bit lacklustre. Soundgarden split in 1997, but reformed in 2010, older and wiser and still a very powerful band to be reckoned with. I really miss Chris Cornell ~ what a VOICE!!
